According to foreign media reports, the Federation of Mines of India (FIMI) has sought to remove the 15% tariff on bauxite exports and increased revenues. It said the measure would help the economy play a role in low-grade mineral resources, speeding up the redevelopment of closed bauxite mines, creating jobs, and earning foreign exchange.
In its advance budget proposal to the Finance Ministry, FIMI said: “The imposition of 15 percent export duty on bauxite is detrimental to Indian non-metallurgical bauxite producers and exporters… FIMI, therefore, requests the removal of export duties imposed on bauxite exports,” The article added that India has abundant bauxite reserves and has great potential to export to other countries as well as being self-sufficient.
